The average daily commute to work and back home is one hour. That means on average you are spending 5 hours on the road a week. Or roughly 20 hours on the road a month. Or 240 hours on the road a year! What do a lot of us do while we are on the road? Most of us listen to music. Some start talking away on their cell-phones. Others feel the need to yell at every inept driver on the road. When you take into account that most university students spend roughly 250 hours a year in the classroom earning a degree, you can understand the true importance of those accumulated road hours. Commuting hours should never be wasted, but rather converted into value-producing time for personal and/or professional development.

Over the years, I have accumulated quite a collection of audiobooks and courses. I make sure that whenever I get into my vehicle for a drive that will last over 20 minutes, that I have an audiobook CD ready to play. Just think about it. In one daily commute, you can have the equivalent education of a university lecture right there in your car, without doing anything extra.

People are often surprised that I can speak in both Portuguese and Spanish and they ask me where I learned how to speak those languages. I tell them, “Inside my car.” I simply listen to those foreign language courses everyday to and from work and having not added any extra things on my already busy schedule, I have self-taught myself two new languages.

Audiobooks will never replace the written word, but think of them as a time-efficiency tool. We all know that our value as employees and as people is often weighed heavily by the knowledge and skills we possess and therefore it becomes important for us to always increase our value by continuing to educate ourselves on subject matter that is applicable to our own lives. Audiobooks and courses provide a medium for you to accomplish this with little to no direct impact on your existing schedule. Now that i-pods are widespread, the ability to learn while on the go has never been simpler.

The audiobook industry publishes a lot of great titles out there for personal and professional development and I highly recommend that you convert those commuting hours into hours of significant value for your overall self-improvement. If you dedicate your commuting hours to learning something of value, then in a 30 year career, you can get the equivalent education of seven or eight PhDs without changing anything in your life. Take action on this today and go out and get your first audiobook and make it a regular commuting ritual.

Having a successful MLM business can give you the money that you have always dreamed of having. But there is another benefit to having a successful business. Personal growth is another factor that figures into a building a successful MLM business. You may not think that you have confidence now, and that might be holding you back on a successful start in this business. But once you have achieved a goal, even a small goal, your confidence level will start to grow. This will, in turn, draw more people to you and help you reach your next goal.

Many people who have joined an MLM or started their own business started with very little money and some had a lack of confidence. As they continued to work at their business and achieve small goals that led a path to their larger goals, they began to develop a stronger sense of confidence in themselves that did not just help them financially, but also on a personal growth level as well.

If you have not reached a goal that you have set already now or in the past, then it requires you to grow and get out of your comfort zone. If you have never made any real money in the past with your Network Marketing business, then you must achieve some major growth before you can attain the financial goal that you desire. Personal growth helps us improve ourselves and at the same time improve our Network Marketing business. When we do this, we not just help ourselves, but we make a profound impact on the other people around us who are looking for leadership. Personal growth helps us tap into that hidden genius that we all have inside of us.Personal growth is not something that can be rushed. It is not a technique or tool to make a quick fix. Personal growth is the attitude you have that you are constantly improving your life. Personal growth is driven by your desire to improve yourself and becoming the leader that you are searching for. It is a life long pursuit because the game of life is a work in progress!

Personal growth is not just about achieving confidence, although that is a big part of this process. The new freedom and confidence are like a snowball that keeps growing as you continue to roll it. You will start to see personal development in other areas of your life. You will begin to appreciate yourself and as a result, others will appreciate you. The personal growth that you receive from building a successful MLM business will not only help you get financial freedom, but will also help you in all aspects of your life. This includes your personal life as well as your relationships with friends and family. As you continue to grow, you will start to see a difference in the way that you view life as well as the way that others view you.

You will also be reaching out to form relationships with people you do not know. This, in itself, is personal growth as you begin to see others who may come from different backgrounds or cultures as who they are as people. Having a successful business with a huge downline forces you to develop relationships with those in your network as well as others who are also in the same boat as you. It changes you for the better as you are able to open up your eyes to a whole new world that is out there waiting for you. As you continue to grow both personally and professionally, you will continue to build a successful business.

If you think that building a successful MLM business is all about the money, think again. Most of those who have succeeded in this business find that they gain more from learning new skills and meeting new people than anything else. Personal growth will make you a better and more confident person who feels comfortable with yourself. Once you feel comfortable with who you are then you will start to attract those leaders that will help you build your business. You will no longer look at life the same way again as you continue to reach out to others, learn from others and grow as a person with your MLM business.

What books are you currently reading? What audios are in your car? One of the quickest ways to master anything is to read books, listen to audios and watch videos on the subject. These are your tools for professional development and business success.

If you’re spending free time reading novels or listening to music, you’re missing a major key to personal and business success. People who achieve high levels of abundance generally read two or three inspirational books every week. They aren’t parked in front of the TV all night.

With today’s technology you have many choices of how to best receive personal growth information. There is no longer an excuse for not having time to be educated.

Look at this partial list of delivery methods for getting professional development information to you:

Read online or listen to PDFs online–software can read text to you!

Listen to audio or watch streaming video online

Download audio or video to your iPod

Download print, audio or video to your cell phone or PDA

Print out a PDF to take with you in a folder

Read a print book

Listen to CDs or watch DVDs – in your car, on a plane, on your TV or computer

You’re probably thinking, “I barely have time to complete all my tasks now. How could I add anything else?” But, we all have the same 24 hours each day.

Since you can’t add hours, it’s up to you to decide how to spend the ones you have. The advent of the iPod makes it easier to access professional development tools. Now you can listen discreetly while standing in line or waiting for an appointment. iPods aren’t just for kids. They’re important tools for business success and personal growth.

To create the life of your dreams, you must make new choices about how to spend your time. If it were possible to achieve your personal development goals by doing what you’re doing now, you would already have everything you want.

I’m sure you’ve heard the adage that you can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it. It’s the same with any personal growth change you want to make in your life. You can’t create a new life with the old habits that produced the life you have now.

Just as when you were a child and books magically took you to places you’d never been, inspirational books will guide you to become the person you want to be and will help build the business success of which you dream.

Every multi-millionaire I’ve met had many personal growth obstacles to overcome in their lives. Not one of them was born into a life of ease. They dealt with circumstances ranging from total poverty, abandonment as a child, abuse, depression, life-threatening illness, divorce, business loss and bankruptcy.

This reality shatters all the excuses you’ve been using throughout your life for why you can’t succeed. For many, inspirational educational tools were the beginning of their road to personal and business success. These professional development tools will start you on the road to your dreams, too.

Let me give you some examples of abundant people who are big readers. Robert Allen, real-estate guru and author of best-selling books including my favorite, Multiple Streams of Income, reads several books at once by leaving them in various rooms throughout his home so a book is always available.

Cynthia Brian, co-author of the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Gardener’s Soul and author of Be the Star You Are, finds it easy to read several books a week because she carries a book everywhere and spends at least two hours nightly reading instead of watching TV.

David Anderson of Famous Dave’s really raises the bar. He’s a self-proclaimed night owl, sleeping an average of five hours. He not only reads two or three books a week, but 20-30 magazines a month! He reads continually for personal development and to stay current on business trends.

You say you want more from life, but will you move outside your comfort zone to make it happen? Maybe reading a book every week seems unfeasible. Commit to reading one book this month, or in the next two weeks. When you find it’s not so difficult, up your quota.

The key to effective use of inspirational books, audios and videos is that you implement what you learn. Put your new knowledge into practice; don’t just read, listen or watch for the sake of spending time doing it.

For most of us self confidence can not really be explained. It is never easy to fully describe what it’s like to be confident. Self confidence is a state of being. It is a bit like being in love – you can’t really explain how you know you are, you just know. You also know that it is a state that you need to aquire if you ever want to succeed at anything worthwhile in life.

Self confidence begins with trust. It is trusting in your own abilities, strengths and attributes. It is the ability to take action and succeed. It is also the ability to take action and fail without allowing the failure to reflect badly on your own internal self of identity.

The true essence of self confidence lies in faith and belief. The belief in your own abilities. It is having a sense of self worth and feeling no less than anyone else. Self confidence means that no matter what happens you know that can deal with it. It is really having a sense of Self. Knowing that you are OK just as you are, and knowing that your imperfections are part of what makes up “you”.

So what leads to a lack of confidence?

Well, each of us have a self-protection mechanism built into us, and although this is much needed, it can cause untold damage in other areas of our lives. There is a self protection program that is hot-wired into the brain and energy system of every living thing. Its role is to protect us. It protects us from dangerous situations by accessing memories and reminding us of the previous discomfort!

Let me explain with an example. If you touch a hot coal you get burned and you know not to touch it again – your self-protection mechanism kicks in. If you encounter a red-hot coal in the future you keep your hands and body far enough away so you don’t feel the burning sensation and the pain associated with it. Your subconscious mind programs into your brain the fear of getting too close to hot coals. This memory, or just the fear and pain connected to it, is immediately evoked and sent to the conscious mind by the subconscious when it feels you are in danger of getting burnt. This mechanism, for self-preservation, has protected you from an infant. However, as we will see, it can work against in a myriad of ways.

Let’s look at one. For example at some previous point in your life you may have tried your hand at something that was completely new and alien to you. You tried and you failed! Perhaps your peers, family, parents friends or even complete strangers ridculed you and laughed at yur efforts. This may have embarrassed you and made you feel inadequate. Your subconscious mind stored and filed this information in exactly the same way a computer does and can access it in the same way. These are neural networks in the brain that fire in sequence and send electrical impulses to the body telling it to release certain chemicals (which produce emotional responses). A neural connection is made between the memory of the event and the emotion you felt at the time. When faced with a similar circumstance in the future you will have problems. The subconscious mind immediately activates the schema and the neural network begins to fire. Thus the subconscious mind replays the memory and the original emotions are evoked in order to protect you! This is done purely so that you do not feel belittled again.

For example, you may have tried to paint a picture. Your friends around you laughed and ridiculed your efforts. This caused you embarrassment and the feeling of being ostracized like the “odd man out”. You lacked the approval of your peers. The subconscious mind immediately stored this information in its memory banks ready to be replayed in the future. 20 years later you still have a desire to paint but won’t even go to a night class to learn because the thought of painting brings forth the emotions of disapproval, embarrassment and fear. The subconscious mind replays the emotions associated with the old memory even if you can’t recall the actual event ever having happened. Your subconscious mind is, in effect, saying “don’t paint or you’ll feel like this again!”.

Usually such emotional memories stem back to childhood from the time when you were most impressionable but not always. You can just as easily encounter such problems when you are an adult and the key to protecting yourself from such negative influences is to develop a better sense of yourself and build your confidence. This is at the very core of all personal development and self improvement techniques!

In reality you have no idea what the outcome will be when you start something new . As an adult, you should be able to try new things without the fear of what ridicule, or condemnation from others, would do to your confidence.

Self confidence is having the ability to feel the fear and do it anyway. In reality you have no idea what the outcome will be when you perform a task that is new to you. By developing your confidence however you are much more likely to expect a positive outcome. Should you not have the outcome you desire you are then capable of looking at the situation realistically, determining what you need to learn and develop in order to succeed at it or at least be able to accept the fact that your are not suited to the activity without “freaking out” about it.

Many people believe that you are either born with confidence or you are not. The truth is we are all born confident! You cried when you wanted something and believed you were so important that you would get it. You tried to walk several times while falling knowing that eventually you would get it. This is confidence. Unfortunately this kind of confidence is usually programmed out of us but it is your NATURAL sate. It’s time to get it back.

Firstly, you should be kind to yourself. Don’t expect perfection. Do you think Tiger Woods got a hole in one the first time he played golf? Although he may have been born with an innate ability at this sport chances are that the first time he played he was terrible at it!

The thing that builds your confidence is trying things that you haven’t done before. Try to do something that scares you. Those people who have self confidence are willing and often eager to try new challenges not becuase they are certain of success but becuase they have enough belief in themselves to give it a try. They refuse to give into their own fears. If there was no fear or uncertainty then there would only be knowing! Confidence is not knowing but trying anyway.

The good news is that there are strategies and approaches you can learn to build your confidence level to a new all-time high. Once you learn these and begin to apply them you will feel better able to try new things and enter new situations. Then as you begin to succeed and realise that the world didn’t stop spinning because you faced your fear, you will gain more and more confidence.

I would seriously advise you to seek out some tools to help accelerate your confidence building. Hypnosis and emotional releasing techniques can be invaluable. The personal development industry has a myriad of products and you should pick one that resonates with you. However, you have all the power within that you need to change yourself from the inside out. Make the decision now to face one fear a week and do it. You will build your self confidence to a level that you can not even now imagine.

For smooth business operations there is an urgent need to attend to your staff needs. As much as some would love to say that it is not good to get involved in your employees social life, I beg to differ. A worker that is stressed will not perform his/her duties well enough hence they will affect the overall business activities.

A good employer should ask, “What is the company doing to identify and address the needs of the staff?” With the current economic hardships, which have greatly affected the social life of people, it would be a mistake not to find ways of easing your workers needs. In addition, the present fluctuation of market forces and working tools has affected the performance of workers. It is therefore prudent that an employer find ways of encouraging and motivating his/her workforce.

Business owners need to strive in whatever way possible to support the progression of skills of their workforce. This will help develop the individual growth of your workers in relation to the relevant market development and also improve your general business performance.

All said and done, employees should see to it that they also seek to work towards employees self development. Personal growth is about assessing yourself and working hard towards achieving success in your career and social life. The staff should not just relax and wait on their employers to assist them in career development.

In fact, I personally think that everyone should endeavor to eventually start their own small business and create employment. Rather than always depending on employment, use your personally skills to build wealth hence realize financial freedom.

Personal development has become increasingly popular in today’s busy world for everything from career improvement and weight loss to public speaking. While the methods and tools used to achieve the desired personal development outcome may vary from high priced seminars to moderately priced books, there are a number of simple steps that can be used to get you started on the right path to reach your own personal development goal, such as:
1) Identify the Cause
A good starting point with personal development is to look at how you got to where you are right now. For example, if your area of personal development relates to weight loss then look at what lifestyle factors contributed to your weight problem to start with. Write down everything you can think of that contributed to the problem and then analyze how you can modify each factor to get the result you desire.
2) Goal Setting
It is essential to have a clear goal in mind to achieve your own particular personal development requirements. Ask yourself exactly what it is that you wish to achieve and the more refined and clear your goal the more chance you will have of successfully attaining it.
3) Make a Plan
Once you have decided on your goal then formulate a plan that details the steps you will take to reach your goal. Use the details you uncovered when identifying the cause of the problem and expand on these to incorporate as much detail as possible on how you can achieve your personal development goal.
4) Focus and Commitment
Once you know your goal and have designed your plan you then need to focus on your goal and commit to the plan you have designed. Set aside a certain amount of time each day to work on your plan and do not allow general daily chores to distract you from what you need to do. Once you have become accustomed to working on your plan each day it will become a habit and therefore easier over time to stick too.
5) Look for Inspiration
It will be of great benefit to look for inspiration from others that have overcome the same personal development challenge as your own. This can be in the form of books, seminars, courses or even a person from your local community that you may be able to contact to get some tips or advice.
Personal development is about identifying areas of your life that you wish to change for the better and having an attitude of continual self-improvement. No matter which area of your life you intend to improve by following the steps outlined above and committing to the plan you can be assured of achieving your goals and in doing so gain more confidence to not only achieve other personal development goals but do it quicker and easier each time.

I am a great advocate of goals and goal setting tactics. However, many times goals can act as a barrier to your success rather than a tool for accomplishing your desires! Why this is so I will try to explain in this article and I will also endeavour to give you the best ways of combating this problem.
Although goal-setting has been proven to help launch you towards the success you desire many people fail to reach their goals and therefore they become a block to their future success. This is because we tend to set up beliefs based on prior experience. If you reach a goal and see the fruits of your labour come to pass you will have positive beliefs about goal-setting. If, on the other hand, you have tried and failed numerous times to reach goals you probably have a very negative view about goal-setting. This view, or belief, will seriously damage any future attempt to reach your desires.
For this reason I believe most of your major goals should be of a personal development nature. By striving to better yourself and your understanding of how your mind works you will eliminate many of the causes for goal-failure!
The most common reason for failing to reach your goals lies in over-confidence. Setting objectives that are too high or too far from where you are now, without having a proper, reasonable and realistic plan to reach them is like trying to fish in the Sahara.
Goals need to be reasonable. There is nothing you cannot accomplish but in order to get to a place, within yourself, where you are capable of achieving big goals you must set some foundations!
You set the necessary solid foundations for achieving your goals by becoming a person capable of achieving them! This means developing the skills and knowledge you need to attain your desire. An example of this would be setting a goal to be CEO of a company in 2 years when you don’t even work for them! Setting a goal to become a millionaire in 2 years when you currently have no job is equally as unrealistic!
You should start with stepping-stone goals. They should be easy enough to achieve but should require some work on your part. At the same time you should set personal development goals that help you improve as a person. For example, you should set a personal development goal to find and eliminate all the negative beliefs you hold about achieving your objectives.
Harbouring negative beliefs, thoughts and emotions that impinge upon your goals is always a major reason for failing to achieve your objectives. Goal-setting and personal development should always go hand-in-hand!
By developing a strong character and belief in yourself, your abilities and your deservedness to reach your goals is a strong defence against doubt, fear, the desire to give-up and failure!
A great personal development way to reach your goals is visualization. Most people fail to understand the awesome power and effectiveness of this very easy to use technique. It is important that YOU do not get caught in this mindset. In your mind’s eye imagine what it will be like when you have already achieved your goal. Muster up all the positive feelings that you will experience when this mental movie is reality. Step into that image in your head and feel it as though it were reality now. Through simple visualization tactics you can ensure you stay motivated in your goal-achieving activities. You will have seen, felt and experienced the very thing you are working towards and you will also increase you belief in the possibility of attaining it!
Use goals in this way and you will be assured of success while at the same time bettering yourself in every area through personal development.

Personal development has moved forward in the last few decades. In past times we looked to our religions to give us spiritual insights. Not long ago we placed our gaze on science for the answers. However, in the last few decades many of us have started to look within for the answers and personal development seemed like the best starting point.
Personal development has, in the past, been a luxury pursuit of the rich, famous or dedicated seeker. However, as we find ourselves firmly planted in the 21st Century personal development is becoming more of a necessity than a luxury.
The term Personal Development has historically been a lose term used to describe the development of yourself in some area or field of expertise. However, in this day and age, it really refers to creating the type of self improvement at a mental, emotional and spiritual level that can create real positive physical changes in character and life experience.
As the fear-mongers and financial elite continually drive home the concept that we are entering the worst recession in a hundred years it is now more than ever that we need to launch ourselves on the personal development trail. It is your responsibility to rise above the controlled collective consciousness of lack and embrace the truth that we are all connected and have access to unlimited supplies of everything!
Quantum physics is continually pushing past the old boundaries imposed by outdated science and showing us the way. It is being shown that the quantum world is composed of just one enegery field. Quantum physics is discovering, through scientific experimentation, that this field exists and is the building block from which everything in existence is made.
How does this discovery connect to personal development?
Well religious, metaphysical and esoteric texts have always told us that we are all connected and that there is only one God who is spiritual in nature. We have been told that we are given dominion over life itself. Jesus told us that we are the temple of the living God. Buddha became conscious of his connection with God. We are told that God is spirit and permeates all things. Now if there is only one God and he is spirit and he resides within each one of us, and everything else, it stands to reason that there is only one true consciousness – God!
Personal growth and self improvement begins with the premise that we are all connected within one mass of vibrating energy. Most self Improvement tools begin with this premise and mould their approaches around it. However, we always remain a part of the whole and cannot escape that, no matter how hard we try.
Science is now confirming that all these beliefs are true. Quantum theory postulates that this energy field, or divine matrix, is the starting point of all matter. In fact matter, or material objects, are just small packets of energy, within this one energy field, that group together to form things!
There is growing evidence to suggest that this one field of energy is electromagnetic in nature. This means the very fabric of material objects are electromagnetic in nature. It is also being shown that our thoughts are composed of the exact same electromagnetic properties as the very energy field in which we live, move and have our being!
Electromagnetic properities are similar to other forms of magnetism – magnetic! Therefore, if your thoughts are magnetised to this matrix of energy, which is the fabric of reality as we know it, and physical objects are part of this matrix then you can use your thoughts to attract things! Thoughts become things!
It is the aim of personal development to allow you to use this knowledge to change your life by giving you practical tools for achieving your goals. The reason why it is so hard for most of us to grasp this concept, never mind use it to our advantage, lies in the fact that most of our life experiences and material objects are created and attracted to us by our subconscious thoughts. It is the automatic thoughts you think that are responsible for creating your life! Most of these thoughts are negative in nature.
To truly elevate yourself above the collective consciousness and become the master of your own life you must fully embrace this axiom. It is necessary to find and then eliminate the negative thoughts and beliefs you hold that have held you back from achieving your dreams. Personal development is just a tool to achieve this. Use it to alter your automatic thinking. Then you will be free to consciously think yourself into any life you desire!
