The Baroque selections used for this are usually largo and adagio movements that have a rhythm of about 60 Beats Per Minute. Some examples are the Pachelbel Canon in D Major, the Albinoni Adagio, and the Largo from the Vivaldi Guitar Concerto. Lozanov found that if he played the music in the background while he was teaching, the students absorbed and remembered many more words than they did when not exposed to the music. Playing beautiful music while you’re studying is something you can add for free to any home study course. Just find a piece of Baroque music that you really enjoy and let it play in the background while you concentrate on your lessons.

Now, let’s continue with the initial question of this article. What I am actually exploring here is what the required ingredients are, that turn a self study Spanish course into an effective and pleasurable learning experience, and what can make it better than being in a class with other students and a teacher. At the end, I will get into why the Pimsleur courses are different, and why they work so well.

One of the main ingredients for successfully learning a language is comittment and consistency. More specifically, it translates to learning something new every day. It quickly mounts up, and also it keeps you involved with the Spanish language. A self-study Spanish course makes this quite simple. You don’t have to leave home to go out to a course, and you don’t have to spend time commuting.

Another factor for success is ease of use under different conditions. If you can take the language course along, you are then able to study on your way to work, while travelling, on vacation, etc. In this way you are able to make good use of time which would instead be wasted, and this makes it easier to support your commitment and consistency to the language study.

Cost is another factor to keep in mind if you are planning to study a language. Self study is far cheaper than going to regular classes at a good language school. If you consider the cost of 3-5 lessons a week at a serious language school, over a period of a few months, you will immediately see that even the most expensive home study course will save you a fair amount.

In the end, though, it all boils down to how effective a self-study course really can be – and here is where the Pimsleur Spanish course comes in. The method developed by Dr. Pimsleur is based on two basic principles – the first is the “Principle of Anticipation”, which makes you “anticipate” a correct answer. This is implemented by giving you questions to which you can readily anticipate the answers, based on what was previously said. The next principal is that of “Graduated Interval Recall” which is based on asking you questions about previously presented material, at continually greater intervals. Which all makes the studying practically effortless. In addition since the course is only audio, it’s simple to have with you on a digital music player and to learn while commuting or taking a walk.

Others feel the need to yell at every inept driver on the road. When you take into account that most university students spend roughly 250 hours a year in the classroom earning a degree, you can understand the true importance of those accumulated road hours. Commuting hours should never be wasted, but rather converted into value-producing time for personal and/or professional development.

Over the years, I have accumulated quite a collection of audiobooks and courses. I make sure that whenever I get into my vehicle for a drive that will last over 20 minutes, that I have an audiobook CD ready to play. Just think about it. In one daily commute, you can have the equivalent education of a university lecture right there in your car, without doing anything extra.

People are often surprised that I can speak in both Portuguese and Spanish and they ask me where I learned how to speak those languages. I tell them, “Inside my car.” I simply listen to those foreign language courses everyday to and from work and having not added any extra things on my already busy schedule, I have self-taught myself two new languages.

Audiobooks will never replace the written word, but think of them as a time-efficiency tool. We all know that our value as employees and as people is often weighed heavily by the knowledge and skills we possess and therefore it becomes important for us to always increase our value by continuing to educate ourselves on subject matter that is applicable to our own lives. Audiobooks and courses provide a medium for you to accomplish this with little to no direct impact on your existing schedule. Now that i-pods are widespread, the ability to learn while on the go has never been simpler.

The audiobook industry publishes a lot of great titles out there for personal and professional development and I highly recommend that you convert those commuting hours into hours of significant value for your overall self-improvement. If you dedicate your commuting hours to learning something of value, then in a 30 year career, you can get the equivalent education of seven or eight PhDs without changing anything in your life. Every man on this earth has got something which is not present in us and everyone on this earth can tell us something which is totally new and totally refreshing. If we give time to others, others shall come forward with new things and these new things shall improve our work and conduct.

Learning process should continue and we should never stop this process. We should never claim that we are the most wise person on this earth. This is not so because others around us know many such things which are totally strange to us. We should be thankful to them that they have opened your eyes and they have told you something new and totally strange to you. When we learn something from others, we improve upon us and this process starts making us complete to some extent. The man who thinks that he is the only wise person shall not learn from others and therefore, such persons shall remain and such persons would never become complete persons. Furthermore, the US has created the right environment to develop very large, prestigious, and profitable institutions that explore, extract, produce, refine and distribute oil, like Exxon Mobile, Chevron, and Texaco to name a few. It is these companies that have influence Washington, which have prevented the United States from entering treaties which could curtail and endanger their operations. Foes for the energy sources and the centralized power generation systems sources are both, foreign and domestic folks. These foes have forced power players to spend, invest and distract millions of dollars to advertise, convince, lobby, influence everyone that their power generation model and energy source is good for the US citizens, the planet and the foreign nations and nationals that receive our US investments and payments. We give credit to the centralized power generation model, that has advance those states that are using it extensively. All top 10 world economies, have very well developed electrical grids and capacities. The next 30 economies have a good to limited electrical capacity, and the remaining economies with more than 2 billion people do not have the energy needed for their survival and to develop their nation. Also, we must give the opportunity to those poor countries friendly to the United States to establish large central power plants like the US and follow our lead. Under this distribution model each home, office, light weight industry would use an HPG equipment to generate its own electrical power, sufficient for their needs. Technology for the HPG equipment is simple, available, but still needs to be integrated and targeted to cost less than 10,000 USD for a 3 Kwh, with a two day electrical backup supply, and a 200 lbs gas heater for cloudy or stormy whether. This strategy decreases investment cost, eliminates the multi million or billion dollar investments in power plants, and further eliminate the need to expand, and maintain an electrical grid. This strategy allows anyone in the planet, foreign countries, farmers, producers, etc. to power up their homes and business, use power tools and create the products and services they need to improve their lives, reduce poverty, improve health, and reduce their slave like conditions at the citizen and national level.

This strategy would allow people to live in the country or wherever they wish, allowing folks that may not need to live in congested and contaminated cities, to move out and hopefully better distribute people throughout the land. This strategy would allow the containment of the established centralized capacity, and send the utility companies the message of the need to continue with renewable and clean if they wish to exist in the long term This strategy would avoid the electrical grid disasters the US has in winter storms, allowing each home to generate is own electricity and heat from its gas and electrical reserves to maintain warmth and power.Use Solar heat as the primary energy source with a natural gas heater as back up, and a battery bank power storage to operate the HPG appliance. Sun heat is used to move a Stirling engine, which turns the power generator and obtain 2.5 to 3.0 Kwh of direct current. The Battery bank stores a 48 hour electrical supply. Sun heat can be supplemented by a gas heater, to enhance its duration and stabilize its capacity. Gas storage could be as large as people chose. This clean and natural  energy source would allow common citizens to generate their own power free of charge once the equipment is installed. It will also reduce the fuel cost for making products. With this we stop transferring funds to Utility companies, who make life more expensive and distort technology trends towards their advantage. This energy source and strategy gives all nations the possibility of development without hurting the planet, stops depleting fossil fuels, and prevents green house gases and nuclear energy contamination. The planet is in peril, we are depleting non-renewable resources, and threatening the extinguishing of life forms with excessive exploitation.

These apparently small changes, with a micro power generation approach, bottom to top, to establish the HPG and the electrical vehicle are the natural progression for our civilization. They may be offensive and aggressive for power players, but in reality it is these power players that are standing in the way of planet survival, and our betterment. These power players could turn winners if they were to pave the way and take part in developing and implementing the proposed improvements.

In any case, the proposed change could take maybe 10 years. If you observe the time the US replaces its vehicle population it takes 10 years. If you see that most people in an electrical grid are currently comfortable, then HPG appliances may not come to these markets for quite some time. HPG will enter first in into those markets and countries where the electrical capacities and grids are limited and insufficient. Hopefully the new government administration in the USA will do the right thing for the people of the US, for the people of the world and for out planet.

However, despite all the unpleasant information going around about distance learning degrees, the fact is there are plenty of legitimate universities and colleges offering online degree programs. These colleges are legitimate and not involved in any way in offering dubious and fake diplomas. Instead, these colleges are going the extra mile to provide quality education online by taking advantage of all available instructional resources such as quality instructional design coupled with video lectures, online digital libraries and proctored exams to ensure their students get quality education and a valid, qualified diploma. Unfortunately, numerous employers have not yet been sold into this alternative way of acquiring education, thus they still regard such degrees as invalid or dubious.

In an effort to change the negative perception, the U.S. National Education Board has established 6 accreditation agencies to evaluate and provide accreditation to the higher learning institutions meeting the minimum criteria for a quality education, thus differentiating between the bogus degree programs. For example, the Distance education and training council provides accreditation for those institutes solely dedicated to online degree programs.  The agency is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Other distinguished specialized accreditation agencies exists that are designed to accredit specific course programs. Programs that meet the set standards of excellence are given accreditation by these specialized accredit ting agencies based on area of specialization. A good example of such an accrediting agency is International Association for Management Education (AACSB) which accredits accounting related programs. Also American Health Information Management Association is tasked with accrediting health programs in different colleges. It is worthy to note that all these accreditation agencies have to be recognized by CHEA for them to be considered as legit agencies.

Why should a student be concerned about an educational institutions accreditation?  Basically, it is to ensure everyone is receiving the same quality education, whether they are attending classes on campus or seeking distance learning degrees.  Before granting accreditation for online degree programs, an agency assesses whether the basic requirements for support, education, and learning facilities are in place.  In addition, specialized programs must submit curriculum to be evaluated, based upon the pre-determined standards of the specialty, regardless of the college or university.

Accreditation assures employers, parents and students that a respective college awarding degrees has undergone and passed a stringent test of excellence in offering quality education in the respective areas of training. On the other hand, diploma mills and fake colleges don’t meet the same standards of education imposed by the agencies since they don’t possess any legitimate accreditation. Thus courses taken by prospective employees that are accredited by the respective agencies would have met standards imposed on the respective specialized areas.

In the end, it is totally up to potential employers to decide whether to hire an individual with a distance learning degree.  With skepticism influenced by all the bogus diploma mills, no wonder they are being more cautious.  Therefore, if the accreditation is supplied by a trusted and recognized source, the application for a job is less likely to be set aside. Instead, it has a better chance to be found in the stack for a second interview or final selection for a job position.
